A home for communities and individuals to experience, explore and excel in their art, whatever that may be.
The Cheltenham Playhouse is a unique and intimate 186-seat theatre, with stunning
Regency architecture and a wide range of performances and events that offer something for everyone.
Here at the Playhouse we pride ourselves on being a down-to-earth and welcoming
space for all. Whether you enjoy watching a show, want to tread the boards or fancy
giving us a hand as a volunteer, we can help make it happen. The building is
equipped with bars serving refreshments, accessible and baby changing facilities,
rehearsal and meeting rooms and a host of friendly faces to ensure your visit is memorable from start to finish.
Since opening as a theatre in 1945, the Playhouse has seen many shows and
events taking place, with the Christmas Panto and the Cheltenham Fringe Festival recently solidifying their annual spots on the calendar.
The building, however, dates back to 1806 having also been home to a salts
laboratory, a swimming bath (which you can still see under the auditorium), slipper baths,
medical spa, a steam mill and bakery, and an indoor cycling school. To learn more
