Playhouse Company Presents: Brontë by Polly Teale
“How was it possible that these three women, celibate Victorian sisters, living in isolation on the Yorkshire moors, could have written some of the most passionate (even erotic ) fiction of all time?” (Polly Teale from an interview in 2005)
As children they saw no distinction between invention and reality. Pouring out endless streams of prose their fictional childish worlds became the seeds of their adult novels.
This play does not pretend it is real: while there is biographical detail there is make believe and imagination. Timelines cross one another on stage and the sisters interact with the characters from their novels.
Polly Teale’s play presents a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the Brontë family.
Running Time: 140 minutes
